YouTube used to count views very differently to how it does now-a-days.
Each person could view a video from the same IP address (computer) and that would count as a view on the view counter.
You could pay or drive traffic to a video and get every visitor counted as a view.
YouTube has since changed this method of working and only Unique Visitors are counted as views.

Views are counted as unique visitors.
Each visitor from a different computer using a different internet service provider is counted as a view.
Views are only registered if a user watches the video for a certain length of time.
Normal "paid for" website traffic will not increase your youtube views.
